Abstract
This thesis investigates the potential of stem cell therapy in managing osteoarthritis in dogs. Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease in dogs, leading to pain, reduced mobility, and impaired quality of life. Current treatment options focus on pain management and slowing disease progression but do not offer a cure. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for treating osteoarthritis by promoting tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation. This study aims to explore the effectiveness, safety, and feasibility of using stem cell therapy to treat osteoarthritis in dogs. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and key definitions. The literature review in Chapter Two critically evaluates existing research on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs, focusing on mechanisms of action, types of stem cells used, treatment protocols, and reported outcomes. Chapter Three details the research methodology, including study design, sample selection, stem cell source and preparation, treatment administration, outcome measures, data analysis methods, and ethical considerations. Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, discussing the efficacy of stem cell therapy in alleviating osteoarthritis symptoms, improving joint function, and enhancing the overall well-being of dogs. The results are analyzed in the context of existing literature to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits and limitations of stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. In Chapter Five, the conclusion summarizes the key findings of the study, highlights the implications for veterinary practice, identifies areas for further research, and offers recommendations for the clinical application of stem cell therapy in managing osteoarthritis in dogs. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on regenerative medicine in veterinary care and underscores the importance of exploring innovative treatments to improve the health and welfare of companion animals.
