Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a prevalent and debilitating condition affecting both humans and animals, including dogs. As a progressive degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis causes chronic pain, reduced mobility, and decreased quality of life in canine patients. Traditional treatment options such as pain management and anti-inflammatory medications may provide symptomatic relief but do not address the underlying cause of the disease. In recent years, stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for managing osteoarthritis by promoting tissue repair and regeneration. This thesis aims to explore the use of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in canine patients, with a focus on its efficacy, safety, and long-term outcomes. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to osteoarthritis pathophysiology, current treatment modalities, stem cell biology, and previous studies on stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, including the selection criteria for canine patients, stem cell isolation and characterization techniques, treatment protocols, follow-up assessments, and data analysis methods. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and potential challenges encountered during the research process. Chapter Four presents a thorough discussion of the findings obtained from the study, including the clinical outcomes, radiographic assessments, pain scores, and mobility improvements observed in the canine patients receiving stem cell therapy. The chapter also examines any adverse events or complications associated with the treatment and compares the results to existing literature on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. Finally, Chapter Five offers a conclusion and summary of the project thesis, highlighting the key findings, implications for veterinary practice, areas for future research, and overall contributions to the field of veterinary medicine. The thesis concludes with a call for further investigation into the use of stem cell therapy as a viable and effective treatment option for osteoarthritis in canine patients, with the potential to improve their quality of life and well-being significantly.
