Abstract
Urban green spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life of urban residents, promoting environmental sustainability, and contributing to the overall well-being of a city. However, the accessibility and equity of these green spaces remain significant challenges in the context of a growing city. This thesis aims to analyze urban green space accessibility and equity in a rapidly expanding city, focusing on the distribution, quality, and availability of green spaces for residents across different socio-economic groups. The research begins with an exploration of the importance of urban green spaces and their impact on urban development, public health, and social cohesion. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to investigate current trends, challenges, and best practices in urban green space planning and management, as well as the factors influencing green space accessibility and equity in urban areas. The methodology chapter outlines the research design, data collection methods, and analytical techniques employed in this study. A mixed-methods approach is utilized, combining quantitative spatial analysis with qualitative interviews and surveys to assess green space accessibility and equity from multiple perspectives. The findings chapter presents the results of the analysis, identifying patterns of green space distribution, utilization, and perception among different population groups. The discussion delves into the factors influencing green space accessibility and equity, including socio-economic status, land use patterns, urban planning policies, and community engagement. In conclusion, this thesis highlights the importance of addressing urban green space accessibility and equity in the planning and development of growing cities. Recommendations are provided for policymakers, urban planners, and community stakeholders to enhance green space provision, improve access for all residents, and promote equitable distribution of green spaces in urban environments. By prioritizing accessibility and equity in green space planning, cities can create more inclusive and sustainable environments that benefit the well-being of all residents and contribute to the overall livability of urban areas.
