Abstract
Transit-oriented development (TOD) has emerged as a promising urban planning strategy to address the challenges of urbanization, transportation, and sustainability. This thesis investigates the implementation and impact assessment of TOD in urban areas, focusing on how this approach can contribute to creating more livable, sustainable, and connected communities. The study begins with an exploration of the theoretical background of TOD, highlighting its principles and benefits in urban planning. It examines the global context of TOD implementation, identifying successful case studies and best practices that have transformed urban areas into vibrant, transit-friendly environments. A critical analysis of the problem statement reveals the gaps and challenges in implementing TOD, such as conflicting stakeholder interests, regulatory barriers, and financial constraints. The objectives of the study are to assess the effectiveness of TOD in achieving its goals, evaluate the socio-economic and environmental impacts of TOD projects, and provide recommendations for enhancing the implementation process. The research methodology employed in this study includes a comprehensive literature review, qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, case study analysis, and stakeholder interviews. The study identifies key factors influencing the success of TOD projects, including land use planning, transportation infrastructure, public participation, and policy frameworks. Chapter four presents a detailed discussion of the findings, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of TOD implementation in urban areas. The analysis reveals the positive impacts of TOD on reducing traffic congestion, promoting sustainable modes of transportation, enhancing accessibility, and fostering economic development.
