Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of urban green spaces on mental health within the context of a rapidly expanding urban environment. Urbanization is increasing at an unprecedented rate, leading to various challenges including mental health issues among city residents. The presence of green spaces within urban areas has been recognized for its potential positive effects on mental well-being. This study aims to assess the relationship between urban green spaces and mental health in a growing city, focusing on how access to and quality of green spaces influence mental health outcomes. The research begins with a comprehensive literature review to explore existing knowledge on the subject. This review covers various aspects such as the benefits of green spaces for mental health, the mechanisms through which green spaces impact well-being, and the challenges faced in urban planning and management of green spaces. The methodology section outlines the research design, data collection methods, and analysis techniques employed in this study. Findings from the research are presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the significance of urban green spaces in promoting mental health in a growing city. The discussion delves into the implications of the study results for urban planning and policy-making, emphasizing the importance of integrating green infrastructure into urban development strategies. The conclusion summarizes the key findings, implications, and recommendations for future research and practice. Overall, this thesis contributes to the understanding of the role of urban green spaces in enhancing mental health outcomes in the context of urban growth.
