Gentrification, a complex process of urban transformation, has been a topic of increasing concern in the field of urban and regional planning. This thesis investigates the impact of gentrification on the availability of affordable housing in urban neighborhoods. The phenomenon of gentrification, characterized by the influx of wealthier residents into previously lower-income neighborhoods, has led to significant changes in the social, economic, and physical fabric of cities. One of the most pressing issues associated with gentrification is the displacement of long-term residents and the diminishing availability of affordable housing options. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the effects of gentrification on affordable housing and to identify potential strategies to address this issue. The research begins with an introduction that outlines the background of the study, presents the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. The literature review in Chapter Two examines ten key themes related to gentrification, affordable housing, displacement, urban planning policies, and community development strategies. This review provides a theoretical framework for understanding the complexities of gentrification and its impacts on housing affordability. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, including data collection methods, sampling techniques, and analytical approaches. The chapter outlines the steps taken to gather and analyze data related to gentrification patterns, housing affordability trends, and resident experiences in urban neighborhoods undergoing gentrification. In Chapter Four, the findings of the study are discussed in detail.
