Abstract
Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a significant environmental concern exacerbated by urbanization and climate change. Green infrastructure, such as parks, green roofs, and tree cover, has been proposed as a sustainable solution to mitigate UHI effects in cities. This thesis explores the impact of green infrastructure on UHI in a rapidly growing city, aiming to provide insights for urban planners and policymakers. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review, field surveys, and analysis of temperature data. The study identifies the background and problem statement related to UHI and the potential of green infrastructure in mitigating this phenomenon. The objectives of the study focus on assessing the effectiveness of different types of green infrastructure in reducing UHI effects, considering the limitations and scope of the research. The significance of the study lies in its contribution to sustainable urban planning practices and environmental management strategies. In the literature review, ten key aspects related to UHI, green infrastructure, and their interaction are discussed, providing a theoretical foundation for the research. The methodology section outlines the data collection process, analysis techniques, and variables considered in the study. Factors such as land use, vegetation cover, and surface materials are examined to understand their influence on UHI. The findings from the study demonstrate the varying impacts of different green infrastructure types on UHI reduction.
