Abstract
This thesis presents a comprehensive investigation into the effects of different agricultural practices on soil health and nutrient levels. The study aims to provide valuable insights into how various agricultural activities impact soil quality and nutrient levels, thereby contributing to sustainable soil management practices. The research methodology involved a combination of field observations, soil sampling, laboratory analyses, and data interpretation to assess the impact of agricultural practices on soil health. Chapter one provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in chapter two explores existing studies on the relationship between agricultural practices and soil health, highlighting key findings and gaps in current knowledge. Chapter three details the research methodology, including sampling techniques, data collection methods, laboratory analyses, and statistical procedures used to evaluate soil health parameters and nutrient levels. The study findings are presented in chapter four, with a detailed discussion on how different agricultural practices influence soil health indicators such as soil organic matter, pH, nutrient content, and microbial activity. The results indicate that certain agricultural practices, such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic amendments, have a positive impact on soil health by improving nutrient levels and enhancing soil structure. Conversely, intensive tillage, monocropping, and excessive chemical inputs were found to degrade soil health and reduce nutrient availability. In conclusion, the study underscores the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices that promote soil health and nutrient cycling to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. The findings of this research contribute to the body of knowledge on soil management practices and provide practical recommendations for farmers and policymakers to enhance soil health and nutrient levels in agricultural systems.
