Abstract
The Secretarial Studies Department at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu plays a crucial role in training students to become competent secretaries and administrative professionals. However, like any department, it faces various challenges that can hinder its effectiveness and overall success. This research project aims to identify and analyze the problems facing the Secretarial Studies Department at IMT Enugu. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather comprehensive data. Interviews with department faculty, staff, and students will provide valuable insights into the day-to-day challenges they encounter. Additionally, surveys will be distributed to a sample of current students in the Secretarial Studies Department to gather their perspectives on the issues they face. The findings of this research will contribute to a deeper understanding of the problems within the Secretarial Studies Department at IMT Enugu. Common issues such as outdated curriculum, inadequate resources, lack of practical training opportunities, and limited career guidance are expected to emerge from the data analysis. By identifying these problems, the department can work towards implementing targeted solutions to address these challenges effectively. Furthermore, the research aims to highlight the importance of a well-functioning Secretarial Studies Department in a tertiary institution like IMT Enugu. Effective secretarial training is essential for producing skilled professionals who can meet the demands of the modern workplace. Therefore, addressing the identified problems within the department is crucial for ensuring the quality of education and preparing students for successful careers in the field of secretarial studies. Ultimately, this research project serves as a valuable resource for the administration of IMT Enugu to understand and prioritize the needs of the Secretarial Studies Department. By addressing the identified problems and implementing necessary changes, the department can enhance its curriculum, improve resources, and provide better support to students and faculty. This, in turn, will contribute to the overall success and reputation of the Secretarial Studies Department at IMT Enugu.
