Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis presents the development of a novel Cost Estimation Model specifically tailored for Sustainable Building Projects in Urban Areas. The construction industry is a significant contributor to environmental degradation and resource depletion. Sustainable building practices aim to mitigate these negative impacts by promoting the efficient use of resources, reducing waste generation, and enhancing the overall environmental performance of buildings. However, one of the key challenges faced by stakeholders in sustainable construction projects is accurately estimating the costs involved. Traditional cost estimation methods often overlook the unique requirements and complexities associated with sustainable building projects, leading to cost overruns and delays. The primary objective of this research is to address this gap by developing a comprehensive Cost Estimation Model that incorporates the specific parameters and variables relevant to sustainable building projects in urban areas. The study begins with a thorough examination of the existing literature on sustainable construction practices, cost estimation techniques, and urban development trends. By synthesizing this information, the research identifies the key factors that influence the cost of sustainable building projects in urban areas. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights from industry experts and stakeholders. The Cost Estimation Model is developed based on statistical analysis of cost data from a sample of sustainable building projects in urban areas. The model is validated through case studies and expert reviews to ensure its accuracy and reliability. The findings of this study reveal that traditional cost estimation methods are inadequate for sustainable building projects in urban areas due to the unique requirements and complexities involved. The developed Cost Estimation Model incorporates factors such as green building materials, energy-efficient systems, waste management practices, and certification costs to provide a more accurate and realistic estimation of project costs. The implications of this research are significant for stakeholders in the construction industry, including developers, contractors, architects, and government agencies. By providing a reliable Cost Estimation Model tailored for sustainable building projects in urban areas, this research can help improve cost management practices, enhance project planning, and promote the adoption of sustainable construction practices. In conclusion, the Cost Estimation Model developed in this study represents a valuable tool for stakeholders involved in sustainable building projects in urban areas. By integrating sustainability principles into cost estimation practices, this model can facilitate the successful implementation of sustainable construction projects, leading to environmental benefits, cost savings, and enhanced project outcomes.
