Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of e-government services in enhancing citizen engagement and participation in local governance. With the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing emphasis on digital communication, governments worldwide have been transitioning towards e-government platforms to improve service delivery and citizen interaction. The study focuses on assessing the impact of e-government services on enhancing citizen engagement and participation in the context of local governance. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from both government officials and citizens. The literature review revealed key insights into the theoretical foundations of e-government, citizen engagement, and local governance, providing a foundation for the empirical investigation. Findings from the study indicated a positive correlation between the implementation of e-government services and increased citizen engagement. Citizens expressed greater satisfaction with the accessibility and responsiveness of online government services, leading to higher levels of participation in local governance activities. However, challenges such as digital divide, privacy concerns, and technological literacy were identified as barriers to effective citizen engagement through e-government platforms. The implications of the study suggest that governments should continue to invest in digital infrastructure and user-friendly interfaces to enhance citizen engagement and participation in local governance. By leveraging e-government services effectively, governments can promote transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in decision-making processes, ultimately fostering a more responsive and democratic governance system. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the existing literature on e-government and citizen engagement by providing empirical evidence of the impact of e-government services on local governance.
