Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of e-government initiatives on citizen engagement in public administration. In recent years, governments worldwide have increasingly turned to e-government platforms to enhance service delivery and engage citizens in decision-making processes. Through an extensive literature review, this study examines the theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence surrounding e-government and citizen engagement. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and case studies, to investigate the effectiveness of e-government initiatives in promoting citizen engagement. The findings reveal that e-government initiatives have the potential to significantly enhance citizen engagement by providing greater access to information, facilitating communication between citizens and government agencies, and enabling participatory decision-making processes. However, various challenges such as digital divides, privacy concerns, and limited internet access among certain population segments can hinder the effectiveness of e-government platforms in engaging citizens. The discussion of findings delves into the implications of the research results for public administration practitioners and policymakers. Recommendations are provided for improving the design and implementation of e-government initiatives to maximize citizen engagement outcomes. In conclusion, this thesis underscores the importance of leveraging e-government technologies to foster greater citizen participation in public administration processes. By addressing the identified challenges and incorporating best practices, governments can enhance transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to citizen needs. The study contributes to the existing literature on e-government and citizen engagement by providing insights into the practical implications of these initiatives for public administration.
