Abstract
The national policy on education in Nigeria has a significant impact on the teaching and learning process in secondary schools across the country. This study aims to explore the effects of the national policy on education on the teaching and learning of government in Nigerian secondary schools. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to gather comprehensive insights. The study will focus on examining how the national policy on education influences the curriculum design and content of the government subject in secondary schools. It will investigate the alignment between the policy guidelines and the actual implementation in the classroom setting. Additionally, the research will explore the perceptions of teachers, students, and education stakeholders on the effectiveness of the national policy in enhancing the teaching and learning of government. Through surveys, interviews, and classroom observations, the study will gather data on the challenges faced by teachers in implementing the national policy on education with regards to government education. It will also assess the impact of the policy on students' interest, engagement, and academic performance in the government subject. By analyzing the data collected, the research aims to provide valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the current national policy on education in relation to government teaching and learning in Nigerian secondary schools. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of national education policies on subject-specific teaching and learning in the Nigerian context. The research outcomes will have implications for policy-makers, curriculum developers, school administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders involved in the education sector. By identifying areas of improvement and best practices, the study aims to inform future policy decisions and educational practices to enhance the quality of government education in Nigerian secondary schools. In conclusion, this research project seeks to investigate the effects of the national policy on education on the teaching and learning of government in Nigerian secondary schools. By examining the policy implementation, curriculum alignment, and stakeholders' perspectives, the study aims to provide valuable insights to improve the quality of government education and contribute to the overall enhancement of the educational system in Nigeria.
