This research project delves into the complex relationship between military rule and political transition in Nigeria. The history of Nigeria has been marked by periods of military intervention in governance, which have significantly influenced the country's political landscape and transition processes. The study critically examines the impact of military rule on political transitions in Nigeria, focusing on key historical events and their implications for democratic consolidation. By analyzing the historical context of military rule in Nigeria, the research highlights how military regimes have shaped political transitions through coups, transitions to civilian rule, and the legacies they leave behind. The study also explores the socio-economic factors that have contributed to the recurring cycles of military intervention in Nigerian politics, including corruption, ethnic tensions, and weak democratic institutions. Furthermore, the research project investigates the challenges and opportunities for political transition in Nigeria in the post-military era. It examines the role of civil society, political parties, and international actors in promoting democratic governance and ensuring a smooth transition from military to civilian rule. The study also discusses the impact of military rule on governance structures, the rule of law, and public trust in the Nigerian political system.
