Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with lifestyle factors such as physical activity playing a crucial role in its prevention. This study aimed to investigate the impact of exercise intensity on cardiovascular health in young adults. The research involved a comprehensive review of existing literature on the subject, focusing on the physiological responses to different levels of exercise intensity and their implications for cardiovascular health. Additionally, a cross-sectional study was conducted, involving a sample of young adults aged 18-30 years, to assess their exercise habits, cardiovascular fitness levels, and overall cardiovascular health. The literature review highlighted the importance of regular physical activity in maintaining cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Various studies have shown that exercise intensity plays a significant role in improving cardiovascular fitness, with higher intensity exercise leading to greater cardiovascular adaptations. However, the optimal exercise intensity for cardiovascular health in young adults remains a topic of debate, with conflicting evidence in the literature. The cross-sectional study revealed that a significant proportion of young adults do not meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity, with many engaging in low to moderate intensity exercise. Participants who reported engaging in higher intensity exercise demonstrated better cardiovascular fitness levels, as measured by parameters such as maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) and heart rate variability. Furthermore, those who engaged in higher intensity exercise also exhibited lower resting heart rates and blood pressure levels, indicating better cardiovascular health. The findings suggest that exercise intensity plays a crucial role in determining cardiovascular health outcomes in young adults. Higher intensity exercise appears to have a more significant impact on improving cardiovascular fitness and reducing cardiovascular risk factors compared to lower intensity exercise. These results underscore the importance of promoting higher intensity exercise among young adults as a means of enhancing cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the relationship between exercise intensity and cardiovascular health in young adults. The findings highlight the importance of engaging in regular, high-intensity physical activity for optimal cardiovascular fitness and health outcomes. Future research should further explore the specific mechanisms underlying the cardiovascular benefits of different exercise intensities and develop targeted interventions to promote higher intensity exercise among young adults. Ultimately, promoting a physically active lifestyle with a focus on higher intensity exercise may offer significant benefits for cardiovascular health promotion and disease prevention in the young adult population.
