Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the effect of group counseling on the psychological adjustment of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. The study will focus on evaluating the impact of group counseling sessions on improving the mental well-being and overall psychological adjustment of individuals coping with the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. The research will be guided by the Stress and Coping Theory, which emphasizes the role of social support and coping mechanisms in managing stressors. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative measures such as standardized psychological assessment tools to measure psychological adjustment, and qualitative data from interviews and focus group discussions to provide a comprehensive understanding of the participants' experiences. The research will involve recruiting a sample of individuals living with HIV/AIDS from different regions in Nigeria to participate in group counseling sessions over a specified period. The findings from this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the effectiveness of group counseling as an intervention for enhancing the psychological well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. The research outcomes will provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of group counseling in improving the mental health and overall quality of life of individuals facing the challenges of HIV/AIDS in a resource-constrained setting. Overall, this research project aims to shed light on the importance of psychosocial interventions, specifically group counseling, in promoting the psychological adjustment and well-being of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. By exploring the experiences and perceptions of participants engaged in group counseling sessions, this study seeks to provide practical recommendations for mental health professionals, policymakers, and healthcare providers to enhance the support services available for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. Ultimately, the research findings are intended to inform the development of culturally tailored and evidence-based interventions to address the psychological needs of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
