Abstract
Cancer remains one of the most challenging diseases worldwide, with conventional treatment modalities often causing significant adverse effects due to the lack of specificity in targeting cancer cells. The development of novel drug delivery systems for targeted cancer therapy has emerged as a promising approach to enhance treatment efficacy while minimizing off-target effects. This thesis aims to explore the design, development, and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems tailored for precise and efficient delivery of anticancer agents to tumor sites. Chapter 1 provides a comprehensive introduction to the research topic, highlighting the background of the study, the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms related to drug delivery systems and cancer therapy. Chapter 2 presents a detailed literature review encompassing ten critical aspects related to drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. This section discusses the current challenges in cancer treatment, the importance of targeted drug delivery, various types of drug delivery systems, mechanisms of targeted drug delivery, advantages and limitations of different delivery approaches, recent advancements in the field, and examples of successful applications in cancer therapy. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the selection of materials, formulation design, characterization techniques, in vitro and in vivo evaluation methods, and statistical analysis approaches. This chapter elaborates on various aspects such as synthesis of drug carriers, loading of anticancer drugs, characterization of drug delivery systems, evaluation of drug release kinetics, cellular uptake studies, and animal model experiments. Chapter 4 presents a comprehensive discussion of the findings obtained from the experimental studies conducted in this research. The results of drug delivery system characterization, evaluation of drug release profiles, cellular uptake studies, cytotoxicity assays, and in vivo efficacy assessments are analyzed and interpreted in detail. The implications of the findings are discussed in the context of advancing targeted cancer therapy through innovative drug delivery systems.
