Thesis Abstract

<p> </p><p>This research work looks at? a surveys of the impact of employee welfare programme adopted by federal government owned parastatals in Enugu state.”</p><p>This study was carried out using the survey method which involves oral interviews and questionnaires to ascertain the impact of employee welfare programme adopted by federal government parastatals in Enugu state on workers.</p><p>The study was divided into five chapters. Chapter one was the introduction which dealt with issues like background of the study, statement of the problems, purpose of the study, delimitation of study, research questions, and significance of the study.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Chapter two was a review of the related literature. This chapter dealt with issues like the historical background for incentive, purpose of employee welfare programme, categories of employee welfare programme, benefit for safety health and welfare, benefits for added leisure and income, benefit for personal identification, retirement and pension benefit, disadvantages of employee welfare programme, withdrawal becomes difficult, deferment benefits not appreciated, principle of employee welfare programme and summary of literature review.</p><p>Chapter three was concerned with the research design and methodology. This chapter dealt with issues like the source of data for the research, population of the study, sample size of the study, method of investigation, and the method of analysis of data.</p><p>Chapter four consisted of the analysis and presentation of data while chapter five comprises of summary of finding, conclusion and then the researcher personal recommendation.</p><p>The data collected was analyzed in tabular forms showing number of response and percentages of the responses. The out come was analyzed, discussed and summarized.</p><p>As part of her recommendation, the researcher maintained that management of organizations, I finally want to increase productivity should henceforth provide their employee with motivational incentives on the form of welfare programmes or fringe benefit</p><p>She also suggested that management should adopt a machinery of evaluating of fringe benefits from time to time.</p> <br><p></p>

<p> </p><p><strong>INTRODUCTION</strong></p><p><strong>1.1 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</strong><strong>BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY</strong></p><p>Employees welfare programme adopted by government owned parastatals in Enugu state has become a popular phenomenon of total personnel policy of business organizations. In practice, such welfare programme involves giving extra benefits to employee to supplement their wages, at a reliable cost to the employer. These policies one important to both the organization and the employees. From employer points of view, it is anticipated that a good employee welfare programme will induce the employees to work hard and improve their general attitude towards organization. But for the employees, these benefits represent an extra income, additional security or mere desirable working condition that require no additional effort.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; In government owned parastatals, employers of labour have seen in employee welfare service, the ability to evoke commitment and co – operation of the stated goals which has led to the introduction of welfare programme, with the sincere belief that a good employee welfare programme will induce employee to work hard and improve the general employee morale. The situation remains relatively the same but for the difference in methods of payment and apparent change in emphasis. Employee welfare programme is defined as “ something of value apart from the agreed regular monetary payment of salaries and wages given by an employee. This will be used as the working definition for this research work.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Employee welfare programme exists, in all cultures, and in all government owned palatals and had existed at all time. They take different shapes and froms and attract different name. in recognition of their worker need fulfillment functions, they are variously called welfare service, welfare benefits, employee benefits and amenities.
