Abstract
Communication is a critical component of effective management within organizations, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that objectives are clearly understood and achieved. This study focuses on evaluating the relevance of communication as a tool for effective management, using the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) Enugu Territorial Office as a case study. The research aims to explore how communication practices impact management effectiveness within the organization. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys will be conducted among employees at different levels within the NIPOST Enugu Territorial Office to gather quantitative data on communication satisfaction, clarity of objectives, and overall management effectiveness. In addition, interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted with managers, supervisors, and staff members to obtain qualitative insights into how communication is perceived and utilized within the organization. The research will analyze the data collected to assess the current state of communication practices at the NIPOST Enugu Territorial Office and their impact on management effectiveness. By examining factors such as the clarity of communication channels, the frequency of interactions, and the alignment of communication with organizational goals, the study aims to identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for enhancing communication practices within the organization. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the importance of communication in management and provide practical insights for organizations seeking to enhance their management practices. By understanding the role of communication in promoting clarity, collaboration, and goal attainment within the workplace, organizations can improve their overall effectiveness and performance. Overall, this study seeks to highlight the significance of communication as a tool for effective management, emphasizing its role in fostering employee engagement, promoting organizational alignment, and ultimately driving success. Through a comprehensive evaluation of communication practices at the NIPOST Enugu Territorial Office, this research aims to offer valuable insights that can be applied in diverse organizational settings to enhance management effectiveness and achieve sustainable growth.

INTRODUCTION

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

          Communication, an important interdisciplinary science, is a dynamic process which in corporate both the situational factors and the changing processes in the environment. In case participants choose to ignore the important of this process and proceed according to their whims and wishes, they would realize much to their dismay, their inability to transmit their ideas effectively and consequent failure to achieve their objectives.

          Today communication has become an integral part of our life. Inability to communicate effectively and efficiently can jeopardize our interests in business and other managerial functions, especially controlling and organizing. Be it inter-personal or interpersonal relationships, the role of communication can be ganged by the fact that whenever there are impediments in the communications process, the flow of activities loses its momentum and misunderstandings may crop up resulting in failure of relationships and situational breakdown. The phenomenon of interaction is a function of some internal and external factors which need to be studied in order to have a comprehensive understanding of the interactant, that is, his manner of presentation, intention, etc.

          The external factors are an amalgamation of the understanding of the situation vis – a – vis the utterances of the sender. When there is a healthy blend of the two, only then can communication be effective.

          Communication is as old as man because in the beginning it was with spoken words that God created all things. In Genesis chapter one verses one to the end God says “let there be and there was”. Even a new born baby start communication once he/she is born by crying out, any baby that is born without crying out is said to be abnormal.

          Man possesses the ability to communicate which is much more than a mere composition of certain physical attributes such as vocal folds, articulators etc. he has the ability to symbolize or to understand concepts in terms of images or symbols. It is this which helps him in effective communication.
