Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis presents the development of a Virtual Reality (VR) Rehabilitation Program tailored for stroke patients. Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in motor impairments that require extensive rehabilitation to regain functional independence. Conventional rehabilitation methods have limitations, and emerging technologies like VR offer promising alternatives to enhance the effectiveness of stroke rehabilitation. The objective of this study was to design and evaluate a VR-based rehabilitation program specifically designed to improve motor function, balance, and overall quality of life for stroke survivors. The literature review conducted in this study highlighted the benefits of VR technology in enhancing motor learning and neuroplasticity in stroke rehabilitation. Ten key themes emerged from the literature, including the effectiveness of VR in promoting engagement, motivation, and task-specific practice, as well as its potential to provide personalized feedback and adjust treatment intensity based on individual needs. The research methodology section outlines the design and implementation of the VR Rehabilitation Program, including the selection of appropriate VR hardware and software, the development of interactive virtual environments, and the integration of evidence-based rehabilitation exercises. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative assessments of motor function and balance with qualitative feedback from stroke patients and healthcare professionals. The findings from the study revealed significant improvements in motor function, balance, and quality of life among stroke patients who participated in the VR Rehabilitation Program. Participants reported high levels of engagement and motivation during the VR sessions, with many expressing a preference for VR-based rehabilitation over traditional methods. Healthcare professionals also noted the potential of VR technology to individualize treatment plans and track progress more effectively. The discussion of findings delves into the implications of the study results, highlighting the importance of incorporating VR technology into mainstream stroke rehabilitation practices. The benefits of VR in promoting motor learning, enhancing motivation, and providing personalized feedback were evident in the study outcomes, suggesting that VR has the potential to revolutionize stroke rehabilitation in the future. In conclusion, the Development of a Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Program for Stroke Patients represents a significant advancement in the field of medical rehabilitation. By harnessing the potential of VR technology, this study has demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of using VR to improve motor function and quality of life for stroke survivors. The findings from this study contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the integration of VR into clinical practice, with implications for enhancing rehabilitation outcomes and promoting long-term recovery for individuals with stroke.
