Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The media plays a crucial role in disseminating information and shaping public opinion, especially in rural communities where access to information may be limited. The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) has implemented the Media Link Programme, an initiative aimed at promoting economic development in rural areas through targeted media interventions. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of the Media Link Programme of FRCN in promoting economic development in rural communities. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, this study investigates the effectiveness of the Media Link Programme in reaching rural communities and disseminating information on economic opportunities and development initiatives. By analyzing data obtained from surveys, focus group discussions, and interviews with key stakeholders, this research aims to assess the extent to which the programme has influenced economic activities and development outcomes in rural areas. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the role of media interventions in promoting economic development in rural communities. By understanding the impact of the Media Link Programme, policymakers and development practitioners can enhance the design and implementation of similar initiatives to leverage the power of the media in driving economic growth and empowerment at the grassroots level. Overall, this research contributes to the existing literature on media interventions for development and provides empirical evidence on the effectiveness of the Media Link Programme of FRCN in promoting economic development in rural communities.
