Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Media management in Nigeria faces a myriad of challenges and yet holds promising prospects for the future. This research project delves into the problems encountered by media managers in Nigeria and the potential opportunities that lie ahead. The study reveals that factors such as regulatory constraints, political interference, lack of professionalism, and financial constraints pose significant obstacles to effective media management in the country. These challenges often lead to compromised journalistic integrity, limited audience trust, and difficulties in sustaining media organizations. On the other hand, the research highlights several prospects for media management in Nigeria. These include the growing digital media landscape, increasing access to technology, and a young, tech-savvy population. By leveraging these opportunities, media managers can enhance audience engagement, diversify revenue streams, and improve content delivery. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of investing in training and development programs for media professionals to enhance skills and ensure ethical practices. Overall, the research underscores the importance of addressing the existing problems in media management while capitalizing on the potential prospects for growth and innovation. By implementing strategic reforms, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, and embracing technological advancements, media managers in Nigeria can navigate the challenges they face and build a more sustainable and impactful media ecosystem.

Thesis Overview

Management is core to every organization who is aiming at succeed whether or public organization to include media organization. The research therefore, examines the problems and prospects of media management in Nigeria with a case study of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation. Survey research method is adopted while 100 copies of questionnaire were administered to 100 respondents who were drawn using simple random sampling technique. Data collected were analysed using frequency and percentage method. It is safe to conclude that OSBC managerial approach to issues is effective, while management performance is very high. However, in adequate freedom, poor funding, infrastructural problem and ownership influence are some of the constraints to OSBC has the management team are appointed by the government and subjected to the whim and caprice of the government at the state. It is recommended that government should provide a conducive environment and infrastructural facilities that will allow effective media performance.
