Abstract
This thesis investigates the phenomenon of code-switching among bilingual speakers in a multilingual setting, aiming to analyze the patterns, motivations, and outcomes of language switching within this context. Code-switching, the alternation between two or more languages within a single discourse, is a complex linguistic behavior that has been studied extensively in various linguistic disciplines. However, the specific patterns and functions of code-switching among bilingual speakers in multilingual environments remain relatively understudied. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, highlighting the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two reviews existing literature on code-switching, bilingualism, and multilingualism to provide a theoretical framework for the study. The literature review encompasses ten key themes related to language switching phenomena. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, participant selection criteria, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the challenges and limitations encountered during the research process. Chapter Four presents a detailed discussion of the findings derived from the analysis of code-switching patterns among bilingual speakers in a multilingual setting.
