Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of social media on the evolution of language, specifically focusing on the usage of English slang. The study employs a case study approach to explore how social media platforms have influenced the development and dissemination of slang terms within the English language. The research methodology adopted includes a combination of qualitative analysis of online data and interviews with language experts and social media users. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, highlighting the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key areas related to language evolution, social media influence, and slang usage. Chapter Three details the research methodology, outlining the approach, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the study. The chapter also discusses the reliability and validity of the research findings. In Chapter Four, the findings of the study are discussed in detail, focusing on the impact of social media on the creation, adoption, and dissemination of English slang terms. The chapter presents key themes and patterns identified through the analysis of online data and interviews with participants. Chapter Five concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, discussing their implications for language evolution and social media influence, and providing recommendations for future research in this area.
