Abstract
This research project explores the use of literary devices in two prominent works by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie "Purple Hibiscus" and "Yellow-Yellow." Adichie, a renowned Nigerian author, employs a range of literary devices to enhance the depth and impact of her storytelling. Through a close analysis of these two novels, this study aims to uncover the ways in which Adichie uses various literary devices such as symbolism, imagery, and narrative structure to convey complex themes and evoke emotional responses from the reader. In "Purple Hibiscus," Adichie utilizes symbolism to represent the contrasting themes of oppression and freedom. The purple hibiscus flower itself serves as a powerful symbol of resilience and growth amidst adversity, reflecting the protagonist's journey towards independence and self-discovery. Additionally, Adichie's vivid imagery vividly depicts the socio-political landscape of Nigeria, providing a rich backdrop for the unfolding narrative. The novel's intricate narrative structure, characterized by shifting perspectives and timelines, adds layers of complexity to the story, inviting readers to engage with the characters' inner struggles and external conflicts.
