Abstract
The advancement of technology has significantly impacted the field of Library and Information Science, particularly in the area of information retrieval systems. This thesis explores the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing information retrieval systems in libraries. The primary objective of this study is to investigate how AI technologies can be leveraged to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and user experience of information retrieval processes within library settings. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter 2 comprises a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research and developments related to AI in information retrieval systems in libraries. The literature review covers ten critical aspects, including the evolution of AI in libraries, the impact of AI on information retrieval, and current trends and challenges. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology employed in this study, detailing the research design, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. The methodology section includes eight key components, such as the selection of research participants, data gathering procedures, and the evaluation of AI technologies. In Chapter 4, the findings of the study are discussed in detail, highlighting the implementation of AI technologies in information retrieval systems in libraries. The chapter examines the effectiveness of AI algorithms, user satisfaction levels, and the overall impact on information access and retrieval processes. The discussion of findings also addresses potential limitations and areas for future research. Finally, Chapter 5 presents the conclusion and summary of the thesis, summarizing the key findings, implications, and contributions of the study. The conclusion reflects on the significance of integrating AI into library information retrieval systems and offers recommendations for practitioners and researchers in the field. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of AI in enhancing information retrieval systems in libraries, paving the way for future advancements in this area.
