Abstract
This thesis explores the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in Library Management Systems (LMS) to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of library operations. The study investigates the potential benefits and challenges associated with integrating RFID technology into libraries, with a focus on improving inventory management, security, and user experience. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review, case studies, and interviews with library professionals to gather insights and perspectives on RFID implementation in libraries. The literature review revealed that RFID technology offers several advantages over traditional barcode systems, including faster and more accurate inventory management, enhanced security through automated theft detection, and improved user services such as self-checkout and automated book return systems. However, challenges such as high initial costs, staff training requirements, and privacy concerns need to be addressed to ensure successful implementation. The research methodology section outlines the process of data collection, analysis, and interpretation used in this study. Data was collected through interviews with librarians, library staff, and RFID technology experts to gain a comprehensive understanding of the key issues surrounding RFID implementation in libraries. The findings from the interviews were analyzed to identify common themes and insights that inform the discussion in this thesis. The discussion of findings section presents a detailed analysis of the benefits and challenges of implementing RFID technology in LMS. It highlights the key factors that influence successful RFID adoption in libraries, including organizational readiness, stakeholder engagement, and technological infrastructure. The findings suggest that while RFID technology offers significant advantages for library operations, careful planning, investment, and staff training are essential to overcome implementation challenges and maximize the benefits. In conclusion, this thesis provides valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of implementing RFID technology in Library Management Systems. It offers practical recommendations for libraries considering RFID adoption, including the importance of stakeholder involvement, staff training, and ongoing evaluation to ensure successful implementation. Overall, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of technology in improving library services and operations, with a specific focus on RFID technology.
