Abstract
This thesis explores the critical issue of digital preservation strategies for special collections in academic libraries. The increasing digitization of library materials presents both opportunities and challenges for preserving valuable and unique resources for future generations. Special collections, which often consist of rare books, manuscripts, archives, and other unique materials, require specialized preservation approaches to ensure their long-term accessibility and usability. This research investigates current digital preservation practices in academic libraries and proposes effective strategies for ensuring the longevity and integrity of special collections in digital formats. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study and presenting the problem statement. The objectives of the study are defined, along with the limitations and scope of the research. The significance of the study is also highlighted, emphasizing the importance of preserving special collections in academic libraries. The chapter concludes with an overview of the thesis structure and a definition of key terms used throughout the research.
