Abstract
This thesis investigates the implementation of a Virtual Reference Service (VRS) in academic libraries as a means to enhance user access to information resources and services. The study recognizes the increasing demand for remote access to library resources and the need for innovative solutions to bridge the gap between users and information professionals. Through an extensive literature review, the research explores the evolution of virtual reference services, their benefits, challenges, and best practices in academic library settings. The methodology employed in this study includes a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to gather insights from both library users and staff members. The findings from this research reveal that the implementation of a VRS in academic libraries can significantly improve user satisfaction, increase access to information resources, and enhance the overall user experience. The study identifies key factors that contribute to the successful implementation of VRS, such as staff training, technology infrastructure, service evaluation, and user feedback mechanisms.
