Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Distance education programs have become increasingly popular in higher education, providing students with flexibility and accessibility to pursue their academic goals. However, one of the challenges faced by distance education learners is the unequal access to library resources compared to on-campus students. This research project aims to explore effective library support strategies to equalize access to library resources for both on-campus students and distance education learners. The study will involve a comprehensive review of the existing literature on library support for distance education programs, focusing on the challenges and opportunities in providing equitable access to library resources. The research will also investigate the current practices and policies of libraries in supporting distance education programs, identifying common barriers and best practices. In addition, the project will include a survey of both on-campus students and distance education learners to gather their perspectives on library support services. The survey will seek to understand the specific needs and preferences of distance education learners regarding library resources and services, as well as the perceptions of on-campus students on the accessibility of library resources for their remote counterparts. Furthermore, the research will conduct interviews with librarians and distance education program coordinators to gain insights into the strategies and initiatives implemented to support distance learners in accessing library resources. Through these interviews, the study aims to identify successful approaches and innovative solutions that have been effective in bridging the gap between on-campus and distance education students in terms of library support. The findings of this research project will contribute to the development of practical guidelines and recommendations for libraries and educational institutions to enhance library support for distance education programs. By identifying effective strategies for equalizing access to library resources, this study seeks to promote equity and inclusivity in higher education, ensuring that all students, regardless of their learning mode, have equal opportunities to benefit from the resources and services provided by academic libraries.
