Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Libraries have increasingly become vital community hubs during emergencies and natural disasters. This research project focuses on the role of library staff as emergency responders, specifically in organizing and running resident information centers during storms and other emergencies. The study aims to explore the impact of library staff in providing critical information, resources, and support to residents during times of crisis. Through interviews and surveys with library staff members who have served in emergency response roles, this research seeks to understand the challenges faced, strategies employed, and best practices identified in managing resident information centers. By examining the experiences of library staff in different communities and disaster scenarios, this study aims to identify common themes and effective approaches that can be applied in enhancing emergency response efforts in the future. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights into the unique contributions that library staff can make as emergency responders. By highlighting the importance of resident information centers in facilitating communication and coordination during emergencies, this study aims to raise awareness of the essential role that libraries play in community resilience and disaster preparedness. The research also aims to shed light on the training needs and support systems required to enable library staff to effectively fulfill their emergency response duties. Overall, this project seeks to contribute to the literature on library emergency response and disaster management by exploring the experiences and perspectives of library staff who have been on the front lines of providing critical services during crises. By capturing the voices of these frontline responders, this research aims to inform policy and practice in emergency preparedness and response, with the ultimate goal of enhancing community resilience and ensuring that libraries are recognized and supported as key stakeholders in disaster management efforts.
