Abstract
This research project explores the job prospects for library and information science (LIS) graduates in Nigeria. The study delves into the current employment landscape for LIS professionals in Nigeria, examining the demand for their skills in various sectors. The research investigates the factors that influence the job market for LIS graduates, including the changing information environment, technological advancements, and educational requirements. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, this study analyzes the career opportunities available to LIS graduates in Nigeria. Surveys and interviews are conducted with LIS professionals working in different organizations to gather insights into their employment experiences and challenges. Additionally, data on job advertisements, professional networking platforms, and government reports are examined to assess the demand for LIS skills in the Nigerian job market. The findings of this research highlight the diverse career paths that LIS graduates can pursue in Nigeria. While traditional roles in libraries and information centers remain essential, there is a growing demand for LIS professionals in non-traditional settings such as corporate organizations, government agencies, research institutions, and technology firms. The study identifies specific skills and competencies that are highly valued by employers in these sectors, including information management, digital literacy, research abilities, and communication skills. Furthermore, the research explores the impact of emerging technologies on the job prospects for LIS graduates in Nigeria. The increasing digitization of information and the proliferation of online resources have created new opportunities for LIS professionals to leverage their expertise in managing and disseminating information effectively. The study examines the role of digital libraries, data analytics, knowledge management systems, and information retrieval tools in shaping the future career paths of LIS graduates. In conclusion, this research project provides valuable insights into the job prospects for library and information science graduates in Nigeria. By shedding light on the current employment landscape, skills requirements, and emerging trends in the field, the study aims to guide LIS students, educators, and policymakers in enhancing the employability of graduates and bridging the gap between academic training and industry needs.
