Thesis Abstract

Abstract
School libraries play a crucial role in supporting education by providing resources, promoting literacy, and fostering a love for reading among students. However, the development of school libraries is not without challenges. This research project aims to explore the various obstacles faced in the process of school library development. One of the primary challenges is inadequate funding. Many school libraries struggle to acquire sufficient funding to purchase books, technology, and other resources necessary for a well-equipped library. Limited budgets hinder the ability of school libraries to update their collections regularly and provide students with access to a diverse range of materials. Another significant challenge is the lack of qualified library staff. School librarians play a vital role in curating collections, assisting students with research, and promoting literacy programs. However, many schools either do not have a dedicated librarian or employ staff members without proper library training. This lack of qualified personnel hampers the effectiveness of school libraries in fulfilling their educational objectives. Furthermore, the issue of space constraints poses a challenge to school library development. With limited physical space available, school libraries struggle to accommodate growing collections, provide comfortable reading areas, and create collaborative spaces for students. Inadequate space can also limit the implementation of technology and interactive learning resources within the library environment. In addition to these challenges, the rapid evolution of technology presents a hurdle for school library development. Keeping up with technological advancements and providing access to digital resources requires ongoing investment and training. Many school libraries face difficulties in incorporating technology into their services due to a lack of resources and expertise. Moreover, the changing role of school libraries in the digital age presents a challenge for traditional library models. As more information becomes accessible online, school libraries must adapt their services to remain relevant and engaging for students. This shift towards digital resources and virtual learning environments requires strategic planning and investment in technology infrastructure. In conclusion, the challenges of school library development are multifaceted and require a concerted effort from educators, policymakers, and the community to address. By tackling issues such as funding constraints, staffing shortages, space limitations, technological advancements, and evolving educational needs, school libraries can continue to play a vital role in supporting student learning and academic success.
