Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in adults through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases continues to be a major public health concern globally, with dietary factors playing a significant role in the development and management of these conditions. Plant-based diets, characterized by a higher intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes, have been associated with numerous health benefits, including reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, the specific effects of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes remain unclear and warrant further investigation. This research aims to synthesize existing evidence on the relationship between plant-based diets and cardiovascular health outcomes in adults. A systematic review will be conducted to identify relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on the impact of plant-based diets on key cardiovascular health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and inflammatory markers. Subsequently, a meta-analysis will be performed to quantitatively analyze the pooled effects of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes, taking into account factors such as study design, participant characteristics, and dietary interventions. The methodology chapter outlines the detailed procedures for study selection, data extraction, and statistical analysis. A comprehensive search strategy will be employed to identify relevant studies from electronic databases, and inclusion criteria will be applied to ensure the quality and relevance of the included studies. Data synthesis will involve the use of statistical techniques to calculate effect sizes and assess heterogeneity across studies. The findings chapter will present the results of the systematic review and meta-analysis, highlighting the overall impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes. Subgroup analyses will be conducted to explore potential sources of heterogeneity and identify factors that may influence the effectiveness of plant-based diets in improving cardiovascular health. The discussion will provide a critical analysis of the findings, addressing the implications for clinical practice, public health policy, and future research directions. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the existing literature by synthesizing evidence on the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in adults. The results of this study will help inform healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the general public about the potential benefits of adopting plant-based diets for cardiovascular disease prevention and management. Further research in this area is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the cardiovascular effects of plant-based diets and optimize dietary recommendations for cardiovascular health promotion.
