Abstract
This thesis presents an in-depth examination of sustainable agricultural practices in rural farming communities. The study aims to assess the current agricultural practices in rural areas, identify challenges faced by farmers, and propose sustainable solutions to enhance productivity and environmental conservation. The research methodology employed a mixed-method approach, incorporating surveys, interviews, and field observations to gather data from farmers, agricultural experts, and community stakeholders. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, background information on sustainable agriculture, the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the thesis. The chapter also includes definitions of key terms related to sustainable agriculture in rural contexts. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key areas related to sustainable agricultural practices. Topics include agroecology, soil conservation, water management, crop diversification, organic farming, integrated pest management, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable livestock management, farmer empowerment, and community-based initiatives. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, detailing the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the study. The chapter also discusses the selection criteria for study participants and the rationale behind the chosen research methods. Chapter Four presents a detailed discussion of the research findings, focusing on the current agricultural practices in rural farming communities, the challenges faced by farmers, and the opportunities for implementing sustainable agriculture practices.
