Abstract
This thesis focuses on the assessment of sustainable farming practices for small-scale farmers in rural communities. The study aims to examine the current farming practices employed by small-scale farmers in rural areas and evaluate their sustainability in terms of environmental impact, economic viability, and social benefits. A mixed-methods research approach will be utilized, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to gather data from small-scale farmers in selected rural communities. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, presenting the background of the research, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two consists of a comprehensive literature review that explores existing research on sustainable farming practices, small-scale agriculture, and the challenges faced by farmers in rural communities. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the research design, sampling strategy, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the research process. Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, analyzing the current farming practices of small-scale farmers, identifying challenges and opportunities for sustainability, and discussing the implications of the findings. Chapter Five concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, discussing their implications for sustainable farming practices in rural communities, and providing recommendations for future research and policy development. Overall, this thesis contributes to the understanding of sustainable farming practices for small-scale farmers in rural areas and provides valuable insights for improving agricultural sustainability and livelihoods in these communities.
