Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of sustainable agricultural practices on rural household income and food security. The study aims to investigate how the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices can contribute to enhancing rural household income and improving food security in rural communities. The research is motivated by the pressing need to address food insecurity and poverty in rural areas, particularly in developing countries where agriculture plays a critical role in livelihoods. The study begins with a comprehensive review of existing literature on sustainable agricultural practices, rural household income, and food security. The literature review highlights the importance of sustainable practices, such as agroforestry, organic farming, and integrated pest management, in promoting economic viability and food availability in rural settings. The review also identifies gaps in the current knowledge and provides a theoretical framework for the research. Methodologically, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions are conducted with rural households, agricultural experts, and local authorities to gather insights into the adoption of sustainable practices and their impact on income and food security. Data analysis techniques such as regression analysis and thematic coding are employed to analyze the collected data and draw meaningful conclusions. The findings of the study reveal a positive correlation between the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and rural household income. Sustainable practices not only enhance agricultural productivity but also reduce production costs and improve market access, leading to increased income for rural households. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable agriculture and its potential to improve rural livelihoods.
