Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This research project aimed to investigate and compare the academic performance of junior secondary school students in Home Economics in Junior West African Senior School Certificate Examination (Jr. WASSCE) from 2008 to 2015 in Federal Government Colleges. The study focused on analyzing the examination results over the eight-year period to identify trends and patterns in student performance in the subject. The research used a quantitative approach, collecting and analyzing examination data from past Jr. WASSCE results in Home Economics. The findings of the study revealed fluctuations in the academic performance of junior secondary school students in Home Economics in Jr. WASSCE examinations from 2008 to 2015. There were variations in the pass rates, average scores, and grades obtained by students over the years under consideration. The study also identified factors that may have influenced the performance of students in Home Economics, such as teaching methodologies, curriculum changes, student demographics, and teacher expertise. The analysis of the examination data provided insights into the strengths and weaknesses of students in Home Economics over the eight-year period. The research highlighted the importance of consistent teaching methods, effective curriculum implementation, and student engagement in improving academic performance in the subject. The findings also underscored the significance of qualified and experienced teachers in enhancing student learning outcomes in Home Economics.
