Abstract
This thesis investigates the profound impact of colonialism on indigenous peoples, with a specific focus on Nigeria as a case study. The study delves into the historical context of colonial rule in Nigeria and examines how it shaped the socio-political, economic, and cultural landscapes of the indigenous communities. By exploring the legacy of colonialism in Nigeria, the research aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the lasting effects on the indigenous populations and their ongoing struggles for identity, autonomy, and socio-economic development. The introductory chapter sets the stage by presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter two conducts a detailed literature review encompassing ten key themes related to colonialism, indigenous peoples, post-colonial studies, and the Nigerian context. The literature review provides a theoretical framework for understanding the complexities of colonial legacies and their implications for indigenous communities. Chapter three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the methodology.
