This thesis explores the profound impact of colonialism on indigenous cultures, focusing on the case study of Nigeria. The study delves into the historical context of colonial rule in Nigeria and its lasting effects on the cultural identity, traditions, and socio-economic structures of indigenous communities. Through a multidisciplinary approach drawing on history, anthropology, and sociology, this research aims to critically analyze the complex dynamics of colonial encounters and their repercussions on Nigerian indigenous cultures. The introductory section provides a comprehensive overview of the background of the study, outlining the historical context of colonialism in Nigeria and its implications for indigenous cultures. The problem statement highlights the need to examine the enduring legacies of colonial rule and their effects on the cultural landscape of Nigeria. The objectives of the study are to critically evaluate the impact of colonialism on indigenous cultures, identify key challenges faced by indigenous communities, and propose strategies for cultural revitalization and preservation. The literature review section synthesizes existing scholarly works on colonialism, cultural imperialism, and indigenous resistance, providing a theoretical framework for understanding the multifaceted impacts of colonial interventions on Nigerian cultures.
