Thesis Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the beneficiaries' perception of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme. The research was conducted through a comprehensive survey involving beneficiaries of the programme. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study revealed that the beneficiaries had a positive perception of the programme overall. They acknowledged the positive impact of the programme on their agricultural productivity and livelihoods. The beneficiaries reported improvements in their agricultural practices, increased crop yields, and enhanced income generation as a result of participating in the programme. Furthermore, the study identified some challenges faced by the beneficiaries in implementing the strategies and techniques taught in the programme. These challenges included limited access to resources, inadequate extension services, and lack of market linkages. Despite these challenges, the beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the support and training provided by the programme. The study also highlighted the importance of sustainability in agricultural development programmes. The beneficiaries emphasized the need for continuous support and training to ensure long-term benefits and impact. They recommended the establishment of follow-up mechanisms and the provision of ongoing assistance to help them apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the programme effectively. In conclusion, the beneficiaries' perception of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme was positive, with notable improvements in agricultural productivity and livelihoods. The study underscores the importance of effective agricultural development programmes in enhancing food security, reducing poverty, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. It also emphasizes the need for continuous support and training to ensure the long-term success and impact of such programmes. Overall, the findings of this study provide valuable insights into the beneficiaries' perception of the programme and offer recommendations for improving future agricultural development initiatives in West Africa.
