Abstract
Marriage is a complex institution influenced by a myriad of factors, including psycho-social elements that can contribute to marital instability. This research project aims to explore the psycho-social factors that play a significant role in the breakdown of marriages. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the subject. The quantitative aspect of the research involves surveying a diverse sample of married individuals to assess various psycho-social factors such as communication patterns, conflict resolution styles, emotional intelligence, attachment styles, and social support networks. Through statistical analysis, the study aims to identify correlations between these factors and marital instability, providing valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying troubled marriages. Complementing the quantitative data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with couples experiencing marital difficulties to gain a deeper understanding of the psycho-social dynamics at play. By exploring the lived experiences and narratives of individuals within troubled marriages, the study seeks to uncover underlying issues that may not be easily captured through quantitative measures alone. The research also considers the broader socio-cultural context in which marriages exist, acknowledging the impact of societal norms, gender roles, and cultural expectations on marital relationships. By examining how these external factors intersect with individual psycho-social characteristics, the study aims to provide a holistic view of the influences contributing to marital instability. Findings from this research have the potential to inform therapeutic interventions aimed at addressing marital difficulties. By identifying specific psycho-social factors that are strongly associated with marital instability, therapists and counselors can tailor their approaches to better support couples in distress. Additionally, the study may contribute to preventive efforts by highlighting early warning signs and risk factors for marital problems. In conclusion, this research project seeks to deepen our understanding of the psycho-social factors influencing marital instability. By employing a mixed-methods approach and considering individual, relational, and societal influences, the study aims to shed light on the complexities of marriage and offer insights that can guide interventions and support services for couples experiencing difficulties in their relationships.
