Abstract
This thesis presents a comprehensive study on the assessment of groundwater quality in an urban area, focusing on a specific case study. Groundwater is a vital natural resource that plays a crucial role in sustaining urban communities and ecosystems. However, increasing urbanization and human activities have led to growing concerns about the quality of groundwater in urban areas. This research aims to evaluate the quality of groundwater in a selected urban area through a case study approach, utilizing a combination of field investigations, laboratory analyses, and data interpretation. The study begins with Chapter 1, which provides an introduction to the research topic, background information, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the thesis. Chapter 1 also includes a definition of key terms to establish a clear understanding of the study context. Chapter 2 comprises a detailed literature review that explores existing knowledge, theories, and research findings related to groundwater quality assessment in urban areas. This chapter presents ten critical aspects of groundwater quality assessment, including relevant methodologies, factors influencing groundwater quality, sources of contamination, and remediation strategies. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology employed in this study, featuring eight key components such as study design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, laboratory analyses, quality assurance, and data analysis techniques. The methodology provides a detailed framework for conducting field investigations and laboratory analyses to assess groundwater quality accurately. In Chapter 4, the findings of the groundwater quality assessment in the urban area case study are comprehensively discussed. The results of the field investigations and laboratory analyses are presented and interpreted to evaluate the quality of groundwater in the study area.
