Urban heat islands (UHIs) have become a prevalent environmental issue in major cities, impacting the quality of life and exacerbating climate change effects. This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of UHIs in major cities, focusing on the causes, impacts, and potential mitigation strategies. Through a case study approach, specific attention is given to understanding the dynamics of UHIs in a selected major city. The introduction provides a background to the study, highlighting the significance of addressing UHIs and the relevance of the case study. The problem statement outlines the challenges posed by UHIs, emphasizing the need for effective strategies to mitigate their adverse effects on urban environments. The objectives of the study are to analyze the factors contributing to UHIs, assess their impacts on urban areas, and propose sustainable solutions to reduce their intensity. The literature review in Chapter Two critically examines existing research on UHIs, covering topics such as urban planning, climate change, and the role of green spaces in mitigating UHIs.
