The widespread use of social media platforms has become an integral part of daily life for millions of individuals worldwide. While social media offers various benefits such as connectivity, information sharing, and entertainment, concerns have been raised regarding its potential negative impact on mental health. This thesis explores the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health from a General Studies perspective. The research aims to investigate how social media influences mental health outcomes, including psychological well-being, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the topic, presenting the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter 2 offers a comprehensive literature review that critically examines existing research on the impact of social media on mental health. The review covers topics such as social comparison theory, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and the role of social media in shaping self-perception and identity. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures.
