The rise of social media platforms has transformed the way individuals interact, communicate, and share information globally. This study investigates the impact of social media on mental health from a General Studies perspective. The research aims to explore the various ways in which social media use may influence mental health outcomes and well-being. The study delves into the effects of social media on different aspects of mental health, such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, body image, and overall psychological well-being. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, defining the problem statement, stating the objectives, highlighting the limitations and scope of the study, emphasizing the significance of the research, and presenting the structure of the thesis. Additionally, key terms relevant to the study are defined to provide clarity and understanding. Chapter 2 consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research and theories related to social media and mental health. The review covers ten essential aspects, including the history of social media, the psychological impact of social media, the relationship between social media use and mental health, the role of social comparison in mental health outcomes, the influence of cyberbullying on psychological well-being, and the potential benefits of social media on mental health.
