Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of social media on the mental health of college students, focusing on understanding the potential benefits and drawbacks associated with social media usage. The study aims to investigate how the use of social media platforms influences the mental well-being of college students, considering factors such as social comparison, cyberbullying, self-esteem, and overall psychological well-being. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from a sample of college students. The literature review provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research on the relationship between social media and mental health, highlighting both positive and negative effects identified in previous studies. Key themes explored in the literature review include the role of social media in shaping self-perception, social relationships, and emotional well-being among college students. The research methodology section outlines the process of data collection and analysis, detailing the survey instruments used to measure social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes. The qualitative component of the study involved in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perceptions regarding social media and mental health. The findings of the study indicate a complex relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes among college students.
