Abstract
The presence of foodborne pathogens in fresh produce poses significant health risks to consumers, particularly in urban areas where the demand for fresh produce is high. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and distribution of foodborne pathogens in fresh produce sold in urban markets. Through a comprehensive sampling and analysis process, various types of fresh produce will be collected from urban markets, including leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables. These samples will undergo microbiological analysis to detect the presence of common foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes. Additionally, factors contributing to the contamination of fresh produce, such as handling practices, storage conditions, and sources of contamination, will be assessed. The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the risks associated with fresh produce consumption in urban settings and inform strategies for improving food safety practices in urban markets.
