Urban areas are continuously facing challenges in land use planning due to rapid population growth, urbanization, and the need for sustainable development. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have emerged as a valuable tool in addressing these challenges by providing spatial data analysis and visualization capabilities. This thesis aims to explore the application of GIS in enhancing land use planning in urban areas, with a focus on its effectiveness and implications for sustainable urban development. The study begins by introducing the concept of GIS and its relevance to land use planning in urban areas. It delves into the background of the study, highlighting the increasing demand for efficient land use planning solutions in the face of urban expansion. The problem statement identifies the limitations of traditional land use planning methods and emphasizes the need for innovative approaches to address contemporary urban challenges. The objectives of the study are outlined to investigate the potential of GIS in optimizing land use planning processes, enhancing spatial data analysis, and promoting sustainable urban development.
