Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. With the increasing popularity and widespread use of social media platforms among the youth, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects on mental well-being. This study seeks to explore the relationship between social media engagement and various aspects of mental health, including but not limited to self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. A mixed-methods approach will be employed to gather data from a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys that assess the frequency and duration of social media use, types of platforms used, and self-reported mental health indicators. Qualitative data will be obtained through in-depth interviews to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and its impact on their mental health. The findings from this research project are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes in adolescents. By examining both quantitative and qualitative data, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms through which social media may influence mental well-being. The results of this study may have implications for educators, parents, mental health professionals, and policymakers in developing strategies to promote healthy social media use among adolescents. Through a thorough analysis of the data collected, this research project seeks to identify patterns and trends that may help elucidate the complex interplay between social media engagement and mental health among adolescents. By shedding light on this important issue, the study aims to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with excessive or harmful social media use and to inform interventions aimed at supporting the mental well-being of young people in the digital age.
